In May of 1944 the CJ Jeep was available to civilians, and became a fairly popular vehicle to obtain. The CJ Jeep was famous for being a vehicle used by people in the war, so when the CJ was released, customers wanted them. The tailgate and canvas top were two popular features of the CJ Jeep.
